The World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 virus to be a worldwide pandemic (the consistent spread of a new disease around the world in a population that has not yet gained immunity). The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and the BC Ministry of Health are closely monitoring the situation and will provide guidance, via Island Health to the Town.

Services & Facilities

The following Town facilities have been closed until further notice:

  • Town Hall (closed to the public but still conducting business)
  • Civic Centre
  • Community Hall
  • Veterans’ Way Washrooms
  • Digital Media Studio
  • Oceanside Hospice (Valhalla)
  • Municipal services remain uninterrupted at this time.

Other town-related facilities that have also decided to close are:

  • Qualicum Beach Museum
  • Public Library
  • Oceanside Community Safety Office
  • Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Course
  • Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club
  • The Old School House
  • Qualicum Beach Seniors Activity Centre
  • Rotary Welch Park (refund of deposits forthcoming)

Meetings / Events

  • The Provincial Health Officer issued an order to prohibit all gatherings of 50 or more people.
  • Council Meetings and Committee of the Whole Meetings will continue (with a maximum limit of 50 people)
  • In an effort to encourage physical distancing, we ask residents to consider the following alternatives:
    • View Council Meetings from home via live streaming.
    • Send comments to be included in our correspondence log (see contact details in the footer)
    • Send any questions or comments about meeting agendas to
  • Open House & Committee/Commission meetings will be suspended until further notice.

    • Investors Walk for Alzheimers (May 3) - Cancelled
    • Youth Appreciation Day (May 7) - Cancelled
    • Family Day (May 24) - Cancelled
    • Timberfest – Event Postponed
    • St. Mark’s Fair (July 25) – Event Postponed

Stepping up Hygiene

  • All municipal facilities are being cleaned more frequently, especially doors and common areas.
  • Staff are following proper hand washing protocols, and respiratory etiquette for coughing and sneezing.
  • Staff are being encouraged to stay home if they feel ill.
