    Safe Sidewalks

The Town of Qualicum Beach maintains 15kms of sidewalks within the Town. Our goal is to ensure a safe network of sidewalks for the use of all pedestrians. We welcome you to report the locations of tripping hazards either by telephone (250.752.6921) or by email (qbtown@qualicumbeach.com). Hazards are marked with bright paint until a crew can be scheduled to repair the sidewalk.
News & Highlights
Due to the recent snowfall, the Community Park Playing Fields have been CLOSED until further notice.
Thank you for your patience!
Rising temperatures on Friday will produce snow changing to rain with increasing snow melt. Overnight temperatures below freezing through the weekend will make for slippery surfaces. Impacts from this weather transition will include tree and infrastructure damage from heavy, wet snow leading to possible power outages, flooding due to snow melt, rain and poor drainage, and roof collapse under heavy snow.

Residents are encouraged to prepare by clearing access to overflow drains blocked by snow and reduce snow loads on roofs and flat structures. In addition, prepare to be safe in your home if roads are unsafe to travel due to ice or covered in debris from trees and power outage.

Road clearing during and after snow events is done on a priority basis, with access to emergency services being the first priority, followed by arterial roads, collector roads, residential through roads, the airport runway and apron, and residential cul-de-sacs and lanes.

Snow clearing from sidewalks is the responsibility of the adjacent property owners. When shovelling snow from driveways, place the snow to the right of the driveway (as you face the street) to limit the amount of snow plowed back into your driveway. Please keep drainage basins clear so that melting snow can go into the drain and not your driveway or house. Remove all parked vehicles from the streets until plowing has been completed; vehicles blocking access could be towed.

As a reminder for all property owners, business owners and/or occupants of real property, snow and/or ice must be cleared from any sidewalk in front of or abutting any premises, owned or occupied, by ten o’clock in any morning of any day, except Sunday. When clearing sidewalks, please take into consideration the difficulties for mobility challenged persons by clearing at least a 3-4-foot-wide path.

Sidewalks covered in snow and ice, if left unattended, is a public safety concern. Failure to comply with this request could result in a fine of $75.00 being issued for each day the offence continues or, should the owner or occupier fail to clear the snow and ice, the Town of Qualicum Beach also reserves the right to perform the work and charge the cost to the property owner and/or occupant.
