Residents are encouraged to prepare by clearing access to overflow drains blocked by snow and reduce snow loads on roofs and flat structures. In addition, prepare to be safe in your home if roads are unsafe to travel due to ice or covered in debris from trees and power outage.
Snow clearing from sidewalks is the responsibility of the adjacent property owners. When shovelling snow from driveways, place the snow to the right of the driveway (as you face the street) to limit the amount of snow plowed back into your driveway. Please keep drainage basins clear so that melting snow can go into the drain and not your driveway or house. Remove all parked vehicles from the streets until plowing has been completed; vehicles blocking access could be towed.
Sidewalks covered in snow and ice, if left unattended, is a public safety concern. Failure to comply with this request could result in a fine of $75.00 being issued for each day the offence continues or, should the owner or occupier fail to clear the snow and ice, the Town of Qualicum Beach also reserves the right to perform the work and charge the cost to the property owner and/or occupant.
