The Mid-Island Master Gardeners
The Mid-Island Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers who have taken the Master
Gardener training program. This training program operates from Malaspina College
in Duncan, from VanDusen Gardens, in Vancouver, and the Horticultural Center of
the Pacific, in Victoria. Once trained, members maintain their M.G. status by
volunteering a minimum of 20hrs. each year, and keep current with gardening information
by attending educational seminars etc.
Local Master Gardeners, have assisted in organizing the annual "Seedy
Saturday", the Great Gardens - Naturally, educational evening , provided
by the Town of Qualicum Beach, and in many aspects of Communities in Bloom.

The Mount Arrowsmith Rhododendron Society
The first meeting of the Mt. Arrowsmith Chapter of the American
Rhododendron Society was held in August of 1989. The society has held a successful
and well-known Mother's Day Garden Tour every May since 1991. During the two-day
tour, bus loads of people are attracted to this mecca of gardens.
An Annual Flower Show and Plant
Sale is held each spring. The show promotes the genus rhododendron
to the public, and growers attend from Vancouver Island, the
mainland and the state of Washington.
The Society has presented horticultural scholarships annually
to local students and was able to donate $1,000 to the Rhododendron Species Foundation
in Washington in 1998 for a critical fundraising project. Meetings are held once
a month and feature educational and interesting speakers from near and far.
