Town of Qualicum Beach GIS/IT/Engineering Tech
The Town of Qualicum Beach (population 9,000) is centrally located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, 30 minutes north of Nanaimo and 2 hours north of Victoria. Recreational opportunities are abundant; including 3 golf courses within the municipality and 3 others in close proximity, as well as skiing/boarding on Mt. Washington less than one hour from this beautiful oceanside community. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Utilities, the position provides technical support for various engineering activities.
Duties will include: · Creation and maintenance of the Town’s GIS data · Providing engineering records access to a wide variety of internal and external contacts · Preparing and maintaining a variety of records, reports, correspondence and documents related to engineering works · Assisting in the inspection and administration of various contracts for municipal infrastructure including utilities, roads and parks · Assisting the public by providing information regarding servicing, accesses, regulations, procedures, etc · Monitoring the Town’s SCADA system · Compiling pressure, traffic and water quality data for historical trending · AutoCAD drawing creation and reproduction · Providing assistance to the development and maintenance of the Town’s GIS system.
The preferred candidate will have strong computer skills, a certificate or diploma from a recognized technical school in Civil Engineering Technology/GIS, or equivalent experience and be registered or eligible for registration as a member of the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of B.C.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be energetic, well organized and be able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with the community, consultants, contractors and internal staff. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required. This is a unionized position and the rate of pay will be commensurate with the qualifications of the applicant.
