GIS Summer Student Position - 2010

 

The Town of Qualicum Beach is accepting applications for a summer student for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Assistant position. The assistant may research, create, edit and maintain spatial and related attribute data; maintain records of data-creation methods; analyze data; generate maps and tables; and prepare summary reports as required. GPS equipment will be used in the field to provide positioning information. The assistant may perform quality control checks to confirm and improve the accuracy of stored data.

 

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

-          Knowledge of principles and practices of GIS, databases, and mapping

-          Excellent keyboarding and computer skills and working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software, including Access

-          Familiarity with scanners and raster file formats

-          Demonstrated ability with Autodesk software and file formats

 

Optional Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

-          Knowledge of municipal property and utility systems

-          Knowledge of Mapguide Enterprise and/or Mapguide OpenSource

-          Programming skills, specifically .NET and C#

-          Knowledge of GPS practices and procedures
